F-150 Gets More Power, More Style, More Attitude

August 31, 2007

Two legends were created in 1903. Inside a small shed in Milwaukee, William S Harley and Arthur Davidson competed their first motorcycle, a bike powered by a three horsepower one-cylinder engine. Meanwhile in Detroit, Henry Ford's new company built its first automobile, the Model A, using an eight horsepower two cylinder engine. Separated by only 300 miles, those two creations are predecessors of two world-renowned brands.

Even after 105 years, Harley-Davidson and Ford continue to make history together. Since 1999, more than 60,000 Harley-Davidson co-branded Ford trucks have been produced, appealing to customers with bold style and attitude. For 2008, the pair combine once again on the new Ford Harley-Davidson F-150, replete with more sophistication and horsepower than their founders could fathom.

Immediately noticeable is new two-tone paint; jet black with a vintage copper color pulled straight from an antique Harley Davidson. Those wanting a more understated look can opt for a monochromatic black exterior with a custom beltline stripe. The bold look of the truck is emphasized by gigantic forged aluminum wheels, measuring 22-inches and polished to a mirror finish along with black painted accents.

The tinted headlamps on this F-150 use a black housing to offset the round lamp reflectors, reminiscent of a motorcycle's single headlamp lamp. The tail lights feature a similar smoke tint treatment. The fascia is further enhanced by a horizontal chrome grill bars in addition to a sculpted lower bumper valence. Numerous parts receive paint to match the body color, including the mirrors, door handles, fender trim and front and rear bumpers. Finishing the appearance package are dual exhaust tips, chrome and slash cut just like a custom cruiser.

The Harley-Davidson Bar and Shield adorns various parts of the truck, including the tailgate, front fenders, wheel center caps, center console and floor mats. The logo motif is also used as a pattern covering areas of the door panels, center dash, and even the dot pattern at the bottom of the windshield. Each truck receives a custom nickel plate displaying the production number and vehicle identification number, as well as the 105th anniversary Harley-Davidson F-150 crest. If you haul anything in the bed, you will find a gigantic Harley-Davidson logo on the rubber bed mat.

The two-tone theme is carried inside to the black leather seats with dusted copper leather accents. Copper tone leather is continued on the shifter, two-tone steering wheel and center console lid. The remainder of the center console is covered in glossy black paint. The center stack is similar to panels found on Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Chrome trim around the air vents and instrument panel complete the unique interior.

The truck is available as SuperCrew 4x2 or all-wheel-drive models. The standard Triton 5.4-liter engine outputs 300 horsepower. Returning to the lineup for the first time since 02-03 is an optional supercharger, available on the 2wd model. The SALEEN package boosts output to 450 horses and 500 lb-ft of torque and features an intercooler. The performance package also includes a pair of gauges to monitor boost pressure and air temperature.
